Facebook and Myspace are social networks that allow people to interact online and share photos, friends, and parts of their lives.  It started off being popular with college students, but has turned into a global phenomenon.  Facebook and Myspace addictions no longer discriminate against age as users range from grade school students to senior citizens.  We are finding that individuals (mostly teens) are spending increasingly long periods of time on these sites, and clearly that is raising some alarm.  Some are concerned that this ever-increasing habit will begin to eat at the other parts of our lives that may be more important.

I have to admit that I am a part of the multitude of people using Facebook, however I have recently discovered a site that is completely foreign to me.  Squidoo is the quirky name of a database that caught my attention a few weeks ago.  I was simply browsing through forums online when the catchy Squidoo phrase welcomed me.  After spending some time on the site, I came to the conclusion that it might be cooler than any other social network I have seen.  Anyone can log into Squidoo for free, and design a page (what they call a “lens”) about anything.  When I say anything, I mean anything.  Squidoo rationalized that everyone is an expert on something, and that you should share your knowledge with the world. If you are an expert on the latest Batman movie for instance, write about it and share it.

Squidoo is not a factual based site and opinions are welcomed.  freedom of expression seems to be the key idea on Squidoo.  You can find a Squidoo page on virtually anything, and if you can’t find anything, you can write about it.  Also, Squidoo allows you to upload images, link to other sites, and even Youtube videos.  The possibilities are endless.  I made a few pages on Squidoo to see how it works, check them out!
