Ok, so this is probably going to be one of the more nerdy posts on this blog, but there is an actual connection to our business.

Starting to pop up in news around the internet are reports that Google, Yahoo and Adobe have collaborated to develop a method for indexing flash apps. I first heard about it this morning from Mashable (link here), and more sites are beginning to report the same thing. Flash technology has been a troublemaker for anybody looking to get search results because there was no way for any of the indexing tools to parse any data out of it.

Why is this important to us?

The design tool on our PrintMyThing & PhotoTrimmings sites and the wizard designer on PrintMyRibbon are Flash based tools. We have always known that anything that’s in the flash application was not going to get indexed, so we built out departments and product pages to house the content people would be searching for. How all this will play out and what changes (if any) will be necessary to optimize our sites is still to be determined, but it is nice to see that Google, Yahoo and Adobe recognize the need for continuing to look to the future of technology and how it may be used.

UPDATED @ 3:55pm : Adobe posted an FAQ regarding SWF Searchability (link)
