647727You’ve almost certainly seen blogs or websites that have ads off to the side that rotate every 3-4 seconds. Honestly, they’re a lot like animated gifs (if you remembere those). The problem with an animated gif is that it’s technically one image and you can only have one link. Say you have 4 banners you want to show (as in the banners on the top right of this blog), and they should all have different pages they refer to. Animated gifs won’t work…Flash could work…but the files are large and unweildy (almost requiring a degree in advanced physics to work with)…what to do…enter javascript…and the best part is, you don’t have to learn the language to pull this off. I did some simple google searches and found a number of javascript image rotators that were free to download and use. I played with a few of them and picked my favorite.

I wanted to use this script anywhere (wordpress being high on the list), so it had to be all inclusive with no separate files and it had to be easy to use/modify. The script I ended up with is completely customizeable in 3 steps and is only 75 lines long! Including the documentation I wrote! The best part though, is that it can be simply pasted into a text widget in wordpress and modified according to the instructions!

Again, this script can be viewed at the top right sidebar on this blog, on the CenturyLabel.com site and coming soon to PrintMyThing and PrintMyRibbon sites! It is available for download…here…have fun!
