Ok so if it hasn’t happened to you, it’s surely happened to someone you’re friends with on Facebook. Recently, someone in our office discovered that their account had indeed been compromised. As a result, I decided to find some resources that can help in the event that this malicious attack happens to you. What better place to start than the help section of Facebook itself…

This link, http://www.facebook.com/help.php?page=797 has both sections for addressing an account breach of your own and how to help/notify a friend who’s fallen victim. However you find out about your account woes, do not click any links in emails that may have notified you. These too can be spoofed and may have been sent to you in hopes that you will click on it and give away some private information. Just like your bank is not supposed to ever email you to request private information, Facebook does not do it either. Simply go to your web browser and type http://www.Facebook.com and log-in. Once there, go to “Settings” at the top of the page and click “Account Settings” You can change your password from there. Changing your password should be the first thing you do as the hacker will have access to your password if they have access to your account.

Remember, use this link to Facebook’s help section page on Hacked accounts for more information. Don’t forget to become a fan of PrintMyThing on Facebook (Click HereScreen shot 2009-12-02 at 3.38.15 PM)
