It’s not every day that HP shows up at the office to present you an award, but last week, they did! We’re proud to announce that we have been the recipients of the 2nd place award in this year’s HP Digital Labels & Packaging Award Contest for the category of Alcoholic Beverages.

For this year’s digital label competition, we submitted a label we printed for Bohemian Spiced Whisky bottles. The label had an intricately detailed multicolor bird with foil highlights on a matte textured background. In order to print this label, we ordered some new materials and made a custom die so the label would look even better on the whiskey bottle. The label was then printed on our digital press before being sent through our hot stamp press for copper foil highlights.

Learn more about the HP award in our Newsroom. To order some of your own award-winning labels and tags, check out PrintMyThing.com.

Our E-Commerce department recently relocated to a new (to us) part of the company and for the first time, all of us sit in the same general area. Being the creative bunch that we are, it was only a matter of time before we gave the new office our special, personal touch.

Enter Wordles.

A while ago, a friend told me about an awesome (and free – so double awesome) word cloud generator called Wordle. Located at wordle.net, Wordle enables users to enter a block of text and it then generates a “word cloud” – a random arrangement of the words entered. Once the basic cloud of words is created, users can play with different fonts, colors, and word arrangements. Wordle also takes into account the size of particular words so users can weight certain words by typing them into their text block more often. What is potentially the best part though is that Wordle allows users to save and print their word cloud creations for free, opening up a realm of creative possibilities.

We decided to spend a slow afternoon making our own Wordles. Everyone in our department typed up their block of text and changed the Wordle variables to their liking. We then had one of our graphic designers save the Wordles as .pdf files and print them off on our color printer. Add some inexpensive frames we recycled from an earlier project, and voila – our Wordles became personalized pieces of artwork. We decided to hang them all on the same wall, signifying our group unity as well as the individuality that we bring to the team.

To make your own Wordle, visit wordle.net. If you catch the custom bug and want to design all sorts of other personalized items, visit PrintMyThing.com and PrintMyRibbon.com.

Well, stop wondering and make your way over to mywebprinting.com and start the process of becoming an authorized reseller.

What products could I sell?

Good question! We have been in the label/tag printing business for a very long time and have a wide array of products suited to any need or market niche. We’ve got digitally printed 4 color labels, foil stamped and ink labels, tags of all sizes and shapes, and personalized ribbon in many styles! We keep adding new styles, materials, colors every day to these products and all you’ll have to do is find the customers and make the sales…we’ll take care of the rest!

What’s more, we’ve recently added some entirely new lines to our lineup that is very exciting for us…Invitations, greeting cards, posters, brochures, flyers, envelopes, business cards and much more. We have been very busy creating 100s of templates that will appeal to both end-user consumers as well as the more traditional commercial businesses. Just think, you’ll be able to sell everything from baby announcement cards and direct mail pieces to jewelry hang tags and personalized ribbon!

How do I start?

Make your way over to mywebprinting.com and give the 800 number a call or shoot us an email inquiry. We have dedicated staff in place to help you get setup as well as be there for any questions you may have as you start selling these fantastic products.

This isn’t some grand notion or philosophical statement of purpose…

It came to light recently that there were those in our department who had not really been given a decent tour of our production facilities, so we put it together and did it. I started thinking about this and decided that it is really important to have at least a rudimentary understanding of what goes on in the company you work for.

We sell custom printed or personalized products online through our different websites, but we also produce most of what we sell. There are guys & girls that have been printing stickers(labels), hang tags, and more for 20+ years in our company and we feel privileged to be on the same team.

Whoever you work for, remember, you are all on the same team, so make an effort to learn what someone else does. I promise it will make your job better or easier or at least more fun knowing what else goes on around you.

In case you’re interested…

I asked for some quick reaction statements from the folks we gave our tour to…here they are:

“What I was most impressed with was the amount of attention to detail that each of our departments exhibit. From our Art & PrePress department that makes sure customer art is as “clean” as possible for an accurate reproduction on the press, to the folks down in Production that have to make sure their press is set up “just so” in order to accurately reproduce the customer’s image, the attention to detail is impressive. You can tell that both of these departments take great pride in their work.”

“I have been with the company for 10 years. I have taken the tour several times, but I always enjoy seeing the new equipment and new technology. Great way to let our production team know how much we appreciate them. Without them we would not have the products to sell.”

“Taking a tour of the entire facility reminds me that there are a large amount of hard-working, experienced people here – many of whom do things completely beyond my comprehension. The tour is a great way to recognize and understand that we are all part of huge team and without any one of us, we wouldn’t be able to accomplish our goals as a company.”

“I found it amazing how the entire process from beginning to end really is like a fine tuned machine. If anyone drops the ball at any point in this intensely organized process; from order inception to product shipment, we really wouldn’t be able to make any of this possible. It takes so many dedicated and highly focused individuals to make even a single order plausible. I can honestly say, after the tour I have a new found appreciation for how much detail and hard work is required by every single person here, who ALL play integral parts of making this company a success.”

“I have worked here at Century for nearly 17 years. Each time I do a tour such as this reminds me how much printing technology has changed over the years, and it will continue to change in the future. Most of these changes happen so that we can more efficiently meet the customers needs. Every person in this company has an important task to complete… from selling the order, to creating the artwork, to the actual production of the order, to shipping the order once completed.”

Our Director of E-Commerce Sales/Marketing has an ad posted in her office that reads:

“The good news is: ‘You’re responsible for the internet’, the bad news is: ‘You’re responsible for the internet’”.

How true those words are, the internet is certainly not taken lightly around here. We’ve invested time, money, and ourselves in producing the best website possible. The internet has been described as the “Wild West of the new millenium”, and we certainly agree. Taming this new frontier is both challenging and fun as we learn the ins and outs of being successful online. There are 4 of us braving this world of electronic free-for-all, day in and day out, and here we are…

Kristin – Content Editor

Kristin is the resident description writer. She is able to take all of the information from the different sources and combine it to present a great explanation of each product. She recently helped to make Custom Ribbon available to all affiliate sites.

Shannon – Content Editor

Pricing Structures, Image Management, and all things organization, Shannon is the gatekeeper for all of these and many other pieces of information that allow us to sell our labels, tags, and more online. A constant struggle to keep things in updated and easy to find, Shannon works tirelessly to make sure things just work.

Jeremy – Technical Coordinator

I guess I’m sort of a cross between tech support and designer. I take care of a lot of the templates in the design tool and wizard products(Some of my recent favorites:Wine Labels, Anniversary Seals). I love new technology, and staying current with the latest and greatest.

Melissa – Fearless Leader/Director of E-Commerce

Being a fearless leader can be scary to some, but Melissa has managed to keep us growing and continually looking for areas of improvement. Besides managing our internet presence, she also does some of the behind-the-scenes stuff like: SEO (Search Engine Optimization, PPC (Pay-per-Click) and various other acronym type things to allow you, the customer, to be able to find us in the search engines.
