Card Corner: Crayons

This card is more about fun than business. Whether you call it a calling card, information card or simply business card, this design was created as a way for kids to have something to share with their friends. We’ve put information to contact the child’s mom so it doesn’t give away sensitive information about the child. The crayon graphic and “got crayons? icon further the childlike nature of this card.

We’re calling this a “Mommy” Card…i suppose for obvious reasons, but we feel there needs to be a line of distinction drawn between business cards and a card that is more for moms (and kids too) to share with friends when they’re out at the park or the city pool hanging out. Just think, instead of scrambling for a scrap of paper as you keep one eye on your child swinging on the monkey rings, you can simply pull one of these cards out and hand it over. You’ll come across so on top of things, why wouldn’t the other mom want to setup a play date sometime soon…This design, called “Delicious” has a good mix of elegance and fun, so it is good for many occasions.

Cool Tools: Mass File Renaming with spreadsheet

In our constant effort to provide not only the best products in all areas but also the best and most efficient way to order them online we have undertaken a massive project that requires us to rename the images we use. Normally this might require simply arranging everything in an ascending order and replacing with a numbered list. This time isn’t that simple, so I took the challenge of finding a tool that could rename thousands of files from an old name to a new name via a spreadsheet that contained both. Simply put I had an excel document with two columns…Column A had the old (current) filenames and Column B had the new filenames. I went on the lookout in all manner of websites, blogs, forums until I came across this site… ( http://www.labnol.org/software/tutorials/rename-multiple-files-bulk-excel-googl-docs/2481/ ) Being a Mac guy, this hurt a little as the technique requires the use of DOS to complete the filename change. I decided to move forward with this technique nonetheless and found that it worked perfectly to rename 3000+ jpgs…Awesome! Again here’s the link to the technique…enjoy!

Card Corner: Country Musical

In a couple of months, my wife, another PMT employee, some friends and myself will be running this year’s Country Music Marathon in Nashville, TN. Besides being the home of part of my wife’s family, it is also the home of country music. The design for this card gets straight to the point with the simple graphic and contact info. This simple contact card is fashioned after a business card without all the company related information, so the individual artist/musicians name and contact details stand out that much more.

We call it Styling, and it shows a more playful side of the salon business. This label collection would be perfect for all product branding and even shopping/take home bags.

Tools that make things easier

I absolutely love finding tools that make processes or projects easier or more efficient or faster. Repetitive tasks are more like a challenge to me to find a way to automate the procedure or find a simpler method. If you work on the internet at all, chances are you’ve use an FTP client. Odds are equally as good that you’ve experienced the pains these FTP clients generally cause because the suffer from feature bloat. If you are unfamiliar with this particular form of bloat, it is simply too many features that bog down the main operations of the software. For this reason I would like to introduce you all to my standby FTP client…OneButton FTP (icon shown to the right). I should say that I still have a couple of other clients that have some advanced features…for when i need them, but by-and-large I find myself sticking to the simple. OneButton FTP simply allows you to upload and download files from a particular FTP location. No file sync-ing or all those other features, just pure and simple file transfer…the way it should be. Careful though, it is currently not being supported, so you’ll have to work out any issues that do arise yourself, or send me a note and I can see what’s what…Enjoy! Click here for download site
