As the main “tweeter” for the WeddingRibbon Twitter account (representing PrintMyRibbon.com), I often am thinking about weddings, brides, wedding favors, and other matrimony related…things.  (I know, I’m waxing oh-so-eloquent, aren’t I?)  As much as we here at PrintMyThing and PrintMyRibbon love weddings, planning for weddings, receptions and the like, I can’t help but think about how much more important the marriage is, than the actual wedding event.

It seems that our society is obsessed with weddings and wedding planning.  Just look at something as simple as the TV, and you’ll find a myriad of shows like “Bridezillas”, “Platinum Weddings”, “Whose Wedding Is It Anyway”, “My Big Fat Fabulous Wedding”, “Rich Bride Poor Bride” and more!  Not to be a downer, but with how high the divorce rate is, I personally think that there should be more emphasis placed on the marriage itself, rather than the day of the ceremony.  How about more shows on “Making Marriage Work” or something?

All of this got thinking about my “date day” I have with my wife this Friday.  I’m taking the day off work (yes, my boss approved it), to spend with my wife.  Our son will be staying with my parents, and my spouse and I will be spending some quality time together, and continuing the romance we started 10 years ago.  (As a side note:  this past Friday, August 6, 2010, was the 10 year anniversary of me proposing.)  I’m really looking forward this time with my wife.  It will give us a chance to talk about the next 10 years of our life together, and what we want to accomplish as a married team.  I truly believe that a couple has to have a joint vision for life, so that their love and partnership can not only stay strong, but grow even stronger as life rolls on.  Be sure you continue dating your spouse!  Not only is it fun, but it will keep that relationship interesting and strong.

So, all that to say:  Have an absolute BLAST planning that wedding, by all means!  But have an even bigger blast investing in that lifelong marriage!
